![]() ![]() Now for the colouring! I use adjustments on top of the very last frame (but before the block and the white thing) but it’s really up to you. Now that you have changed the size and the whatevers, you can play the gif to see what it’ll look like (well, you can play it at any time you like, now is just convenient)īUT MAKE SURE TO ALWAYS SELECT THE FIRST FRAME AFTER YOU’VE PLAYED IT! It’s really important because what you do on the first frame is also done on the other frames, but some things that you do on other frames are only modified on that specific frame. ![]() NOTE: Don’t distort the image! To change the size of the image, hold shift while using the corner things to make it smaller or bigger. You can make it bigger or smaller, drag it around, rotate… Basically, everything that’s shown where the block was is what your gif will be like. With all the layers of the gif (not the block or the white thing) you’re going to free transform (ctrl + T) to get the size you want. Next comes the size.Ĭlick on Layer 1 (the first layer), hold shift and then click on the last layer of the gif (the one before the block!) Don’t select the block or the white thing! ![]() Ta-da! Now you have a ‘tiny window’ that’s basically what your gif will be (we’ll crop the white thing out later). Note: If you’re planning on making your gif very bright then I suggest filling the outer thing with a darker colour, and if your gif is very dark then pick a lighter colour. Using the Paint Bucket Tool (G) again, fill it with a different colour than the block and deselect everything (I select M and then click on the selection again). Invert the selection (ctrl + shift + i), so that everything but the block is selected, and create a new layer. Select the block (hold ctrl and click on the layer the block is). Now you have one big black block right in the middle aw yisss. Click on the first frame and the very last layer and then paste (ctrl + V) Now you’re going to select everything and then copy (ctrl + A then ctrl + C) and then go back to where your gif is. So now you’re going to use the Paint Bucket Tool (G) and pick a colour (any colour, really) and just fill the entire thing. If you make this new file and you don’t like the dimensions, you can always use the Crop Too © to crop until it’s the size you want! But remember: mind the width! [I picked 245 x 245 px for this one, but it’s up to you. Now comes a particularity of mine that I have no idea if people do this or not but I find incredibly useful even if it takes a little longer.įirst, you’re going to create a new file (ctrl + N) with the dimensions you want your gif to be. The next thing we’re going to do, also important (geez ok everything’s important), is the size. If you don’t do this, the gif will end up like this The more frames you chose to limit to, the longer the delay has to be. We’re going to go to the very last frame, hold Shift and click on it so that all frames are selected.Īnd then we’re going to set the delay between each frame, also important! Now, usually I just select 0.1 seconds, but I also recommend trying 0.11 and 0.12 especially if you chose to limit to every 3 frames. Don’t forget to check ‘Make Frame Animation’ if it’s not already checked :) Click OK! The bigger the number, the more choppier your gif will get, which is why I usually never go past 3. If it does, import it again, check this box and try switching between limiting to every 2 or 3 frames. You can always import the clip without checking this box and see if it has too many frames. And if you’re going to make a black and white gif you can practically double the number of frames! It heavily depends also on the colours of the clip, the more colours it has, the lesser the number of frames you’re going to have. Usually, if I’m making a gif that’s about 245 x 245 px, I try to keep the number of frames around 30-40. The smaller the size is, the bigger the clip length can be. We’re going to consider two things: the length of the clip you want to gif and the dimensions of the final gif. Now we’re going to import the clip!įrom here you can also cut the clip (‘Selected Range Only’) but since I never do that because I already cut it in Sony Vegas let’s go to this next part that’s extremely important: the frames. Now I’m going to cover how I make a basic gif and hope this way can help someone :>Īfter getting the clip ready, go to Photoshop (I use CS5 Extended, I think this one or CS6 will do but I’m not too sure).
